Fawkner Memorial Park Burials

For more than 100 years, Fawkner Memorial Park has been a popular choice for burials in Victoria. Spanning 113 hectares, it is one of the largest cemeteries in Australia. The park opened in 1906 and the first burial took place on 10 December 1906.

Fawkner Memorial Park has a rich history of leadership and innovation in the Victoria cemetery industry such as the inauguration of Victoria’s first modern crematorium in 1926 and the introduction of grand public mausoleums in Australia.

Burial Facilities

Fawkner Memorial Park offers three non-denominational chapels set amidst lush vegetation and greenery. Refurbished in 2015, the Fawkner chapels are contemporary, modern spaces that provide a tranquil and serene option for organising a funeral or memorial service.

After a service, families could choose to sit back and reminisce with friends and family over a cup of tea at the park’s Tea Rooms.

The park offers several options for burials including vaults, lawn graves with plaques and monumental graves. Memorial options offered at the park include tree memorials, rose memorials, wall niches, garden niches and boulder memorials.

Mausolea

The Holy Angels Mausoleum combines classic European architecture and contemporary design and features sweeping staircases, colonnaded walkways and stained glass.

Chapel Lawn

These premium lawn graves are a recent addition and are located in a prime spot next to the Fawkner chapels.

Children’s Areas

The park has designated a special area for the burial of children or for placing their cremated remains. These areas feature a range of headstone and plaque memorials.
